An Old Favorite Reinvented For the Sagging 21st Century Economy
PINCKNEY, MI – April 11, 2008. When Michigan’s economy started to sag, long-time Pinckney mobile disc jockey, Bob Kliemann, felt compelled to answer the concerns of his clients. Many could no longer afford to pay his standard rates, or simply didn’t need an emcee. They just needed music. So Bob put on his inventor’s cap and gave a new twist to a popular old favorite: the jukebox!
Kliemann calls his creation the “Portable Digital Jukebox Machine,” with portability being the operative word. Forget that image of a hulking, record playing monstrosity! Kliemann’s sleek, wedge-shaped unit can sit on a tabletop, and is light enough for one person to transport. Inside, stored on a digital hard drive, are over 7,000 songs running the gamut from the ‘40s to today’s latest hits. All can be selected via a touch screen on the unit’s face. Renting for less than half of what a DJ might charge, Kliemann repots a robust rental rate for the unit. As economic troubles have begun to spread across the rest of the country, he partnered with a local company to put his jukebox into full production so that he could offer it to other DJs with budget-conscious clientele.
